Another thing you should look for when choosing a new cat is healthy eyes. If there is watery discharge in the eyes this may indicate a cold or respiratory infection. The personality of the animal is another important factor. A healthy cat will be curious and inquisitive. Some are more playful than others. Some cats are a bit shy. If a cat just lies there when introduced to you they may be ill. If they are not ill, then they may just be very used to humans. When you bring your kitty home, there are ways to keep him or her healthy for years to come.

First, make sure to schedule a checkup with the vet. Your veterinarian can examine your kitten or cat, administer vaccinations and take care of any underlying health issues if indeed any issues exist. They can also advise you on how to properly care for your cat. You will need to provide the proper food and plenty of fresh, clean water. Your cat will also need a clean litterbox to use. Keep the litterbox scooped every day and change the litter once a week.

Another one of the very important health care pet cat tips is the prevention of fleas. The best course of action is to get Frontline or a comparable product from the vet's office. The product is applied to your cat's neck once per month and kills fleas, ticks and larvae. Not only will your home stay free of fleas, your cat will stay free of fleas.
